Have you ever wondered how far flying pot pie goo can travel? Me neither. Yet, sadly, I found out last night. The answer is 5 or 6 feet.
Its on the walls. Its on my pictures ...
its on the kitchen door ...
and on the refrigerator. Its on my jeans and in my hair. Don't even ask about my socks.
Why it even traveled a not insubstantial distance into the dining room. I get the feeling I'll be finding spots of this pie well into the New Year.
~insert string of the most vile profanity imaginable here~
Indeed, I dropped the gd pie while transferring it to the fridge. It hit the deck and hit it hard! This is what happens when I'm trying to do too many things at once. Above (top picture) you can see my lovingly crafted pie ... that's the "before" shot. This ...
is the "after". I am not amused.
For the record, its a turkey pot pie and it was spectacular. I had a slice before the disaster occurred ... the husband was not so fortunate. He had take-out. Ole.
So there you have it, proof positive I'm completely human. I'll post the recipe sometime next week. Really, I'm just looking for sympathy here. ;)
Tip of the Day: a bench scraper is indispensable for cleaning up pot pie goo. You heard it here first.
Bon appetite!
I can only imagine the profanity that would have been flying out of my mouth - lol After of your hard work, your pie was beautiful. You always have such beautiful detail to your creations.
ReplyDeleteI've done this with gravy before...trying to pour it from a dutch oven to a ziploc. You are now disaster proofed! =)
Poor diva, it happens to all of us. I am a total butterfingers, so I feel for you. At least you got the before picture, it did look lovely.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, I once dropped a pumpkin pie brought by a professional chef to my house for the first Thanksgiving I ever hosted. Yes, I'd had a glass of wine while mashing the potatoes. We looked at each other, then he got a spoon, put it back in the pie plate, and we served it as mousse.
ReplyDeletewhere did the rest of the door go? Holy cow thats a big spray pattern CSI would not know what to do with that one!
ReplyDeleteOh, no! And it looked so good too on the "before" picture!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - aw, thanks for the kind words about the pie. That's part of the reason the cursing was so extreme ... I went to the trouble of making it pretty ... then ruined it before my husband even got home! Here's hoping you're right about that disaster proofing ... for a week at least. ;)
ReplyDeleteHH - I *am* glad I got the before picture ... and a nice slice before the crash! LOL
Erika - Oddly, that does make me feel a bit better ... misery loving company and all. Not to mention I'm loving the fact that you served it as a mousse! As Julia Child always said - "you're alone in the kitchen" ... what they don't know doesn't hurt them! LOL
doggybloggy - long story about that half door ... involving my terribly unruly cats and sea of broken glass/ceramics. Papa Diva custom built me that door to keep Zelda out of the kitchen. She can't jump that high and I didn't want a full door. :)
5 Star - I suppose if this is the worst thing that happens, I'm doing ok. Its not like I can't afford to miss a meal! LOL
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :(
ReplyDeleteOuch...and it was sooo beautiful...appreciate that you would share what happened...I always thought I was the only one who had stuff like this happen!
ReplyDeleteI gasped when I read this! Oh no! Sorry to hear, it happens to the best of us.
ReplyDeleteGuess you learned from the best about kitchen disasters! Too bad your Irish genes (the neat ones) didn't help you out here. Anyway, I LOLled throughout your posting. Fortunately your sense of humor wasn't missing.
ReplyDeleteXXXXXOOOOOOO
Okay, I thought I had the market cornered on kitchen disasters. You win.
ReplyDeleteI was laughing, but also very sad for all the work, food and anticipation that got wasted. Thank heavens you can laugh about it here.
Hope your Christmas dinner goes smoothly!
Thanks for sharing this.
Reminds me of the time my mother dropped a pie on the bottom step of our basement stairs. I think it was blueberry. Of course it fell exactly face down.
ReplyDeleteNobody really thinks of their mothers cursing a blue streak, but my mom really let out some good swear words that day. I think I was about 9 years old, so I probably learned a few that day.
Thanks for the laugh, and I'm glad you at least got a good blog post for your troubles!

Oh my, Diva - may I never have a flying pot pie goo experience like yours! Hope you have managed to recover by now...
ReplyDeleteI dropped apple crisp in a Le Creuset dish right on the floor once -- broke the dish, ruined the crisp. I've dropped a whole mini muffin pan filled with unbaked batter into my oven! I completely sympathize!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I thought I was the only one who did stuff like that. :-)When I start cooking, our dog comes into the kitchen to watch because she knows *something* is gonna hit the floor. LOL!
