The Cruelest Month ...

... T.S. Eliot insists its April. I beg to differ. Seven inches of snow has fallen upon New York City, its 23 degrees, and my neighborhood is experiencing sustained 35 mph wind gusts. Friday I was in a t-shirt and jeans, today I'm zipped into my North Face parka. If that's not cruel, I don't know what is. Its typical of March though and it is my sincere hope that we will soon experience another 30 degree temperature shift ... in the opposite direction this time!

Much to my own shock and horror, I did brave the elements today. Silly Diva did not heed the warnings and neglected to grocery shop yesterday. Ah well, a bracing journey it was and now I'm heading into the kitchen to stir up some hearty chow. Stay tuned for a full report and new recipe tomorrow.

Meanwhile, there's still time to enter my Great Granola Give-Away. The contest closes at midnight on Thursday.

So, what did you do with your snow day? Chilly Diva wants to know.

Bon appetit!

Aw, man. I'm sure you're none too pleased, but I miss snow.

Yeah, I am not amused. Shall I pack it up and send it to you, WWW?

Words words words can have my share of the snow as well. I'm investigating places to rent in Florida for next winter---which will probably be mild. Anyway, yesterday I did shop in anticipation and made some very, very bad Irish brown bread that will soon become fodder for the disposal. I used a new recipe from the food network---ugh. That'll teach me to depart from the known! And as to the weather, don't discount April. But at least storms in April don't usually last.

I keep checking back thinking I'll see hearty chow, but what do I keep seeing? SNOW. Snow, of which I happen to have my own plentiful supply. What I don't have a plentiful supply of is goulash soup!

My parents live right outside the city and were totally not happy with that storm hehe. Luckily it missed me up here, we just got the cold. BRRRRRRR Stay warm!! And your chocolate should be getting to you today or tomorrow!

Pixelgal - how much snow did you get? We had 9 inches, but the streets and sidewalks are remarkably clear today. :) I'm sorry the brown bread didn't turn out. What happened?!?

Juliet - it was cold and still is cold. Sigh. LOL

Veri - I know you're in the deep freeze too. Hopefully we'll warm up next week. Its got to stop at some point ... right?

Step - at least the cold is a good excuse to bake ... I made biscotti last night. Looking forward to the chocolate and will let you know when it arrives. :)

We got about 9 or 10 inches which will be around for awhile in this cold weather. I"m trying again with the bread and will let you know what happens.

Pixelgal - I'll be doing my brown bread recipe here later in the month. We can compare notes! Good luck on the next batch. As for the snow ... I think we're supposed to warm up again later in the week ... so there's always hope. Sigh.
